Kathrin Gabler is an Egyptologist who specializes in the New Kingdom/Late Bronze Age period, hieratic texts, and the ancient worker’s village of Deir el-Medina. Her research interests range from social and economic history to prosopography to material studies and ‘object biographies.’

Kathrin is an enthusiastic researcher, teacher, and supervisor with extensive management experience. Since October 2023, she is a senior research fellow at the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo (DAI Kairo) where she is responsible for the photo archives and the representative in the region Thebes/Luxor. Before, Kathrin replaced Fredrik Hagen (and Kim Ryholt) as Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen. She is also conducting a large-scale (re)investigation of tomb TT 217 in Deir el-Medina and developing a cutting-edge research platform (ResearchSpace Deir el-Medina) formerly at the University of Basel in cooperation with the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology in Cairo.
